Kura- Araks Basin Protection Day 2017

An environmental event on Kura-Araks Rivers’ Protection Day was held by “Country Water Partnership” scientific, environmental NGO and its partner “Sustainable Water Environment” NGO with students of "ATP" (“Armenia Tree project”) Charitable Foundation in Margahovit community center on June 5, 2017.June 2, 2000 has been declared a Kura-Araks Rivers’ Protection Day by the initiative of "Kura-Araks" Coalition. This event is celebrated in the three South Caucasus countries every year. The Aghstev river is flowing through Margahovit community; it is a transboundary river and flows through Armenia and Azerbaijan.  The importance of the Kura-Araks Rivers’ Protection day was presented during the event, information leaflets and T-shirts with CWP, SWE and Kura-Araks Rivers Logos were disseminated among the students. Afterwards, the rules for working with monitoring device was presented to the students. Monitoring of water samples (river water temperature, turbidity, oxygen content) taken from two different places of the Aghstev river flowing through the community area was implemented with the participation of the students, and in the end the students summarized the monitoring results.          
On the same day garbage was cleaned in the storm-sewer  with temporary flow was implemented with the help of the community head (plastic bottles, cups, containers, plastic bags, etc., which are filled into the Aghstev river during mudflows flooding the adjacent fields and farmlands).         
At the end of the event an encyclopedia and 2 monitoring tool-kits  were given to the students and the teacher for active participation in the event, so that in the future they can carry out water monitoring on their own.
